With rigid rigor, the school board called a two hour delay for students in ice and snow before any roads had even been treated after an all night snow storm. Employees were to report on time. In an abrupt change of plans, half an hour before school was supposed to begin, a remote day was called for students after a two hour day, no physical school. The board is fucking bonkers to risk their employee’s life and limb when students are going to stay home and do remote learning.
Does the board really believe elementary, middle, and high school students are going to do their school work at the appointed times for their regularly scheduled programs? The kids don’t even know the daily schedule at school let alone a delay schedule.
The plan is nothing more than a pile of buffalo shit. I do hope the board is prepared to pay for the lawsuits coming from car accidents or even deaths of employees traveling treacherous roads in the snow that sparkles beneath their tires.
School boards are always fearful of teachers taking advantage of their positions. After all, they do get summers, breaks, and holidays off. They have earned sick days and personal days as well. Even though three to five inches of snow is to be expected between now and tomorrow. Heaven forbid they live up to the snow day clause they’ve written into the official document to protect their employees. It just wouldn’t be right. Would it?
Teachers can use the extra two hours to plan and make up for the time they complain about losing their prep time from too many meetings. Maybe they see this as a bonus they’ve given us. Snow and ice to protect us from the children, quiet time to get things done we normally can’t. Yeah, that’s it. Let teachers risk their lives to catch up on standards based planning.
