…breathe deeply and often…

Picturetrove

Suzanne’s dinner invitations were really ambushes. She invited June and Zeke over for a double dinner date then pulled out the picture of her and her sister June in the pool and passed it around to their boyfriends. June trembled a bit at the mound of pictures Suzanne had stuck her hand into. These were blackmail pictures, pictures of June and Suzanne in bikinis when the pool was first built. June was on the chubby side and objected to the selection of photographs. She did not want those photographs in the hands of these men.  June knew nobody needed to see those pictures.

June made a note to kill Suzanne.

The boyfriends were enjoying the drama of the picturetrove. Suzanne pulled out a picture of June and squealed. She flashed the image at June and pulled it tight against her chest. Suzanne giggled and stomped her feet at the secret she held, the power.

Suzanne held the mother of all embarrassing home photos of June. Everybody knew it. Everybody wanted the picture. June went into one of those hypersonic-superhero-transcendental type states and got the picture from Suzanne’s grimey fingers and to everyone’s shock and chagrin, ate it.

Hey…it was a dinner party.

There is a clever, real-to-life tone in this little piece, a reality we all understand but few can achieve with written words. Very snazzy and enviable work here.

True story, the names were changed to protect the guilty.

Another great description of the angst of schooldays. Who ever would want to return? Not me!
