I’ve been on her bucket list for as long as either of us remember and did my song and dance right above her house. I showed up. Pounded on her door, rained down on her house, poured in through the windows at 9:30 p.m. , and she was dead asleep on the couch. If she ever wants to see me again, it’ll cost her thousands of dollars not including airfare. The Aurora Borealis ain’t junk.
Blue, red, and green, a fiery display fit for the queen she believes she is and knows she deserves. She was sound asleep. I even shone through the windows like the prism hanging from the curtain rod, red, blue, and green on the rug, but no, she missed it. The cats played in my light though. They saw me. They enjoyed me, particularly that grey one, Norris.
The aurora borealis never makes it to rural Appalachia, and Norris took advantage of its power. He bathed in my light, washed himself all over in my strength. Maybe if she’s lucky, he’ll let her pet him to share some of my magic with her.
There is magic in my light. Red is passion, love, and anger, all of the strong and powerful emotions. Blue is for trust, strength, and calm, she prays for those everyday. And green is for new beginnings, abundance, and peace, another daily prayer of hers. If she’d been awake, the cat wouldn’t have so much responsibility to pass this knowledge on, and knowing Norris the way I do, she’s not going to learn a thing.
That cat is a selfish beast that has no intention of passing anything but a desire for half and half, or to find out what’s in the latest bag the woman brought into the house. Cats are unreliable narrators at best. They like to keep secrets, and this is no secret to keep.
My heart is broken that Norris, her nemesis cat, witnessed her top bucket list item while she slept through it. I know her heart is shattered. I feel bad about that, but the Aurora must be respected with quiet. I did all I dared to wake her.
Norris should have woken her up, she mentioned once or twice before that he was an asshole, I think she was right. He was not helping.
