I’m in a writer’s permutation of life at the moment. I collect books about writing and writing advice. I have writing friends and their books. I go to writing conferences and groups. I write blogs, and write with cats across my arms. I’ve collected my life where I want it right now.
What do we gather along the way and what do we discard? I’ve lived different lives in faraway lands and don’t have a lot of shrunken heads to show from my travels.
Sentimentality breeds junk. My two China cabinets are full of priceless antique dishes, some that haven’t been used in fifty years. Each piece of crystal tells a story. The ruby red bowl came from a car boot sale in Portsmouth, England for three pounds. Each of the twelve tea pots lining the top of the cabinet came from a special place on planet Earth. Every single one has a tale to tell. Tea pots, however, aren’t known for their high interest levels.
My twins will be tasked with perpetuating my story. I believe it will be with a U haul truck and bonfire. They aren’t the yard sale type.
